Wheeler
Education
Russell G. Wheeler received his undergraduate degree from the University of Oregon and his law degree from American University, Washington College of Law (magna cum laude, 2002), where he was an Articles Editor of the American University Law Review.
After law school, he served as a Judicial Law Clerk to Hon. F. Bradford Stillman, United States Magistrate Judge, United States District Court, Eastern District of Virginia in Norfolk, Virginia.
Legal Experience
Employment Discrimination and Wage and Hour
Russell works on employment discrimination matters brought under the Family and Medical Leave Act, the Americans with Disabilities Act, Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, and the New York Human Rights Law. He also represents employees in individual and class actions with respect to wage and hour claims.
Unemployment Compensation
Russell represents employees at New York State unemployment compensation hearings where employers have contested the receipt of unemployment benefits.
Criminal Defense
Russell defends individuals charged with felonies and misdemeanors in the County and Justice Courts of the Hudson Valley.
Prior Experience
Prior to joining Charny & Wheeler, Russell worked as an associate in the commercial litigation department of a New York City Am Law 100 firm, where he litigated matters involving catastrophic personal injury, products liability, mass tort and consumer class action. Russell has also represented indigent defendants as a staff trial attorney for a New York area legal aid society.
